Installing a Photoshop Pattern for the Clueless
"Whenever I found out anything remarkable, I have thought it my duty to put down my discovery on paper, so that all ingenious people might be informed thereof."

I thought of sharing some tips and tricks as I learn about Photoshop. I'm a Photoshop novice and I do not have any formal training at it; thus, I can understand when other newbies thirst for a knowledge that one sees in the work of others. I learn as I go and as needed kind of gal; thus, am grateful to have a very patient and knowledgeable Photoshop mentor to help me out anytime.
Lately, I'm fascinated with scrapbook styled layout for a photobook. I have been bored with the solid background colors so I started to use patterns; however, I find the ones that come out of the box so uninteresting. I want to use other patterns such as on the photo above. I finally figured out how to install the patterns and apply them
How to Install a Photoshop Pattern
1. Be sure to have a Pattern (.pat file) ready
2. Place the *.pat file into C:\Program Files\Adobe\Photoshop\Presets\Patterns (on Windows)
3. Access Photoshop 4. Select the Paint Bucket Tool
5. Select Pattern in the Paint Bucket Tool selection
6. Click the Pattern Selection drop down box; then, click the arrow button at the right hand section of the Pattern Selection window.
7. Click Load Patterns; then, select the .pat file you installed in step 2 above. Once the patterns are loaded, you will see the new patterns in the Pattern Selection window. You are now ready to rock it out.
Apply a Photoshop Pattern
1. Create a new Photoshop file.
2. Select the Paint Bucket Tool; then, select a pattern from the Pattern Selection window.
3. Place the cursor on the blank Photoshop file; then, left-mouse click to fill.
4. Adjust the mode, opacity, and proceed with your other changes; then, save the file.
If you are adventurous enough to create your very own pattern; then, here's a tutorial which I find very helpful.
