Off Topic: Adding Blogger Menus (Made Easy)

For beginner bloggers with minimal HTML knowledge, tweaking a blog template becomes frustrating at times. Information is out there in the world-wide web, but sometimes they are too technical for simple bloggers. I've decided to share what I have learned while tweaking my blog to add a menu (E.g. Home, About Me, Contact Me, etc.)

Two ways to add Blogger menus:

1. Add a Page
  • Access the Blogger Dashboard; then, click on Edit Posts.
  • Select Edit Pages; then, add a new page.
  • Specify a Page Title which will appear as the menu label.
  • Publish page and you're done.
Note: The disadvantage to this method is that the menu page is static and it cannot automatically link to another website or link. If you want a menu that will link to another website; then, the next method is for you.

2. Use of Link Bar/Link List

Note: This method is applicable to Blogger templates with Link Bar or Link List gadget.
  • Access the Blogger Dashboard; then, click on Design.
  • Edit Link List/Link Bar to display Configure Link List window.
  • Fill in the necessary information and if the menu is a web link, be sure to fill in the New Site URL.
  • You may automatically sort the menu order or you may click the arrow up or down beside the Edit/Delete options of each menu.
  • Save the changes; then, verify.
I hope these helps all the frustrated Bloggers out there and since this is a photo blog, I'm leaving you all a postcard shot. I'm still wishing, hoping, and praying for clear skies and a perfect weather. I'll be heading to the beach in a week. Woohooo!!!

Dropping by to say Hello

"To me, photography is an art of observation, it's about finding something interesting in an ordinary place...I've found it has little to do with the things you see and everything to do with the way you see them." - Elliott Erwin -

How's your week so far? I hope you are faring well. I'm just dropping by to say Hi lest you forget that I'm very much still here. All is well at my corner of the universe. I'm having purple yam ice cream on a cold weather. How ironic is that? Will be back soon with more posts. Enjoy the rest of the week!!!

My Whereabouts

In the next few days, I will mostly be out and about, traveling inter-island. I hope it will be sunny especially on weekends so I can relax and enjoy the scenery.

You will see more of travel shots in the coming days and less of photo sessions. I can't wait to take some break from work and I'm excited by the end of August and this coming September because I will have maternity and baby milestone shoots among others.

Hope you all have a great weekend!!!

Damsel in distress. De-stress Please!!!

Early morning commute has been a nightmare and it has become worse since schools re-opened for this year's classes. It has been a stressful drive to work and I have not yet found the magic hour where there is no heavy traffic and drivers are law-abiding.

It is very stressful and each day I wish driving in the U.S. freeways. Though there are times that I find it boring driving with speed limits in an automatic car, now I crave for it compared to what I have to endure lately. I have been dawdling on posting something like this because I really want to capture the driving scene that makes me crazy, but since am mostly on the wheel...I never had a chance :-(.

Don't you just wish that your morning commute will be as free-flowing and orderly as the scene in the photos below?

Sigh!!! Somehow I miss this place. Shots were taken last year at San Francisco and Marin county freeways (California, USA).

Happy. Ecstatic. Joyous

"It's surprising how much memory is built around things unnoticed at that time."
- Barbara Kingsolver -

My parking space at the office has a flourishing shrub that grows near it. What I like about this shrub is its vibrantly colored fruits and fresh hued flowers that dangle beautifully on its branches. This shrub is like a magnet to me, I never fail to just train my eye on its beautiful natural adornments every time I pass by it. I was afraid that any time soon it will stop bearing fruits and flowers. Finally, I got a chance to take some pictures of the shrub last weekend.

"The only constant thing in this world is change." At any day, I may no longer see this shrub so full of life. It is based on this belief that I try to appreciate the little things around me. I have so many things in mind that sometimes I forget, I need to capture them in a moment so I have something to go back and look. And speaking of appreciation...I am so happy for the many forms and ways of appreciation I received because of the photo sessions I have made. It was one happy week seeing the joyous and happy smiles of the people whom I have touched by way of photographs. To cap off the week, I am ecstatic to be a weekly favorite at Project 64: Out of the Box. You can view the winning photo here. I wish you can all see me brimming with happiness and beaming a big smile. :-)

Zoe At Eight

I met her a couple of years ago; she was a bubbly young kid who converses with me in English. I was at first astonished and I thought to myself whether she was born and raised outside of my country. I am from the Philippines and although English is our secondary language and our educational system has English as it's primary language of teaching, I rarely hear a youngster who speaks only in English. I was amazed to the point that I no longer knew how to react. Fast forward today...she has grown up to be one fine young girl. She is still the bubbly girl, but she has also shown maturity of her age and refinement.

Her name is Zoe and she's going to be eight soon. She loves pink, she likes to craft (proof of that is she has given me a flower corsage made of gift wrapping ribbon flowers), she likes fairy tale princesses, and when she saw the magic ribbon wand she wanted it so much; so we went ahead and pretended to use her magic wand for greater power. Abracadabra...tadahhhh!!!

Zoe is not just a magic-wand wielding princess, she also draws very well. She said that she's gonna draw me and her together. She added two dogs at each of our side because we both have dogs and we love our dogs. Aaawww how cute, I wish I can draw as good as her.

She talks a lot in an endearing way, she cares so much for her family, she talks a lot about her cousin, Dimple, and that she wants Dimple to have her photos taken with a hat and a magic wand too. She also told me that she wants to be a model. Who am I to refuse in her want to become a model? Hence, we had a photo session with her just in time for her eighth birthday.

I hope to see her grow up to be one fine young lady. I hope she won't forget the artist in her. I hope she will succeed and gets what she wants. Advance Happy Birthday Zoe! Enjoy!!!

Sneak Peek: Of a Young Artist

Great things are accomplished by talented people who believe they will accomplish them.
- Warren Bennis -

I had a photo session over one weekend with an uber-talented young girl. She's turning eight this month and I want to preserve in photos one of her great skills. We never know when she grows up and becomes busy with other things, she may forget the talent that I admire on her a lot. At least with photos, she'll have something to remind her that she draws very well; she shows great skill in her strokes and imagination. You'll see one of her cute drawings in the upcoming full post. For now, here's a sneak peek of this young artist.

Reflections...

"Somehow I cannot hide who I am though I've tried. When will my reflection show who I am inside?"
- Reflections, Mulan -

I took this shot during a river cruise at Loboc, Bohol. Every time I see this shot, I always associate it with the song, Reflections, from the movie Mulan. I like the song and I love the movie. I kind of relate at the movie, at one point or another, each one of us struggles to belong and to conform with society. This is one of the growing pains, but the good thing with "becoming wiser" each year is that you become to know who you are as a person and become to stand for it despite the dictates of everyone around you.

Sisterhood is Powerful

"Having a sister is like having a best friend you can't get rid of.
You know whatever you do, they'll still be there."
- Amy Li -

"She is your mirror, shining back at you with a world of possibilities.  She is your witness, who sees you at your worst and best, and loves you anyway.  She is your partner in crime, your midnight companion, someone who knows when you are smiling, even in the dark.  She is your teacher, your defense attorney, your personal press agent, and even your shrink."  - Barbara Alpert -

A sister looks out for you. She waits for you. She walks beside you. And she holds your hand.
She will be your sister forever.

My sister and I used to fight like cats and dogs. It was my mother's frustration when we were growing up. I could not forget what she told us at one point when my sister and I were fighting really hard.  She told us to stop because no matter what it's only the two of us who will look out for each other forever. Have you talked or seen your sister lately? Keep in touch or give her a call.

Polka Dots and Red

“If you can dream it, you can do it. Always remember that this whole thing was started with a dream and a mouse.”
-Walt Disney-

Ssssigggghh! The downside of a working class is you get to experience Monday blues and  a Wednesday rush. Whew! Am I too obvious of how my week is going so far? Sometimes I just want to let earth swallow me and get lost or hop on the next available plane and catch a flight to Paris. Paris? oohhh am dreaming! But as my sister keeps on saying, DREAM is the only free thing in this world so why not DREAM ON.

Aaahhh, but I need to get back to Earth first...I have a job waiting for me to be tackled. Helloo Earth!!! It's a good thing I have a polka-dot loaded Minnie Mouse pen to remind me that dreams can happen. A toast to all our dreams. Cheers!!!

Family Portrait: Rina, Lara, and Khanna

Do you remember the adorable girl in the Sneak Peek a few days ago? She's Khanna Alexis and she spells her name KhannaA lexisY, with the Y being the first letter of her last name. Her mom kept on telling her to transfer the "A" before "lexis", but she insisted that there was no need because the A was  already there. Just see the dagger look in her eyes, it shall make any adult tremble. :-) It took time to warm her up, it was a good thing I brought chalkboards and chalks for her and her sister to play with.

But hey, this is not a photo session for Khanna alone because this is a family shoot with her big sister, Lara, and lovely mom, Rina.

I met with the family at around 9am, but the sun is not wasting time to spread sunshine to this family. It was also a warm day, we were sweating profusely due to the lack of breeze, which is not quite what I remember the last time I was at the same location.

The family is cool and game enough to pose and just be themselves especially the kids when it's play time. Kids are at their best when they are just allowed to be themselves during a photo session; this is the reason why I prefer non-studio type locations so kids can go wild with their energy and imagination. It's challenging for a photographer, but come sorting time, it's fun to browse and go over the honest expressions.

I am a believer that the best picture is not always the one with the most beautiful smile and pose, but it is one that has loads of personality and emotion.

Thank you Lara, Khanna, and Rina for spending your Saturday morning with me. XOXO
