Phnom Penh: A Stop Over at the Charming City

"You don't need magic to disappear. All you need is a destination."

Our ultimate destination in Cambodia is the faraway town of Siem Reap. The plan is to explore the Lost City of Angkor Wat and to check off from our bucket list one of the 7 Wonders of the World.
The road from Ho Chi Minh to Siem Reap is a langorous 13 hours bus ride so we decided to stop over at Cambodia's capital, Phnom Penh for an overnight. We did not waste time to explore the Charming City.

The city is a combination of the new and the old. Modernization is everywhere while the testament to the Cambodian's faith, their centuries old Hindu/Buddhist temples, stand watch over the bustling city.
The capital is also home of the Cambodian's royal family. We had started the following morning with excitement to visit a palace. Unluckily, our research failed to show that King Sihanouk died and the royal family was mourning of his death. The palace was off limits to visitors. Darn, but all was not lost because we managed to visit the nearby museums and Stupas.

Phnom Penh has a charm of its own. You must leave behind your jaded self and expectations; then, you will come to appreciate the  intricate architectural wonders, the delicious meals, the beautiful Buddha's flowers, and the welcoming splashes of bright orange-robed monks

But just like the birds, we are only passing by as we head on over to Angkor Wat.
