What to Wear (& More)

Photos should reflect who you are, but you must also consider that your attire can make a big difference between snapshots and beautiful portraits. Below are some tips on how to prepare for your photo session:
What to Wear:
  • Wear something comfortable, but appropriate for the location or concept shoot, if applicable.
  • Wear something you love, and make sure it is “you” or something that empowers you.
  • Wear clothes that accentuate your best asset or hide your imperfections especially if you do not want them to show up in the photos. E.g. If you have scars or dark knees, you may want to wear long dresses or pants.
  • Wear shoes you love and matches with your level of dressing. Avoid flip flops unless you are at the beach. E.g. street style = sneakers, chucks, toms, etc. BUT not leather shoes.
  • Wear makeup especially for girls to hide blemishes or imperfections. Use an eyebrow pencil to improve your natural eyebrow line. Put on lipstick and blush.
  • For a group or couple portraits, wear clothes that are complementary in style and color. Do not overly match with colors.  For those who do not have a clue about complementary or harmonious colors, you may use this online tool: Color Scheme Designer.
  • For a group or couple portraits, wear clothes that are the same level of dressiness.
  • Think about layering clothes.  Layering makes it easy to take off or put on clothes without worrying where to find a place to change.
  • Wear something dressier or much nicer than you normally use so that the portrait shots will turn out different from the usual snapshots.  What you wear can add “oohmmp” or class to your photos.
  • Avoid clothing with wordings on it or large prints because they create too much visual noise and distracts from the main subject on the photo – YOU.
  • Avoid baggy clothes that will make you look shapeless for ladies and stout for guys.
What to Bring during a Photo Session:
  • Changing clothes if you want more than one set of look and if you do not want to layer clothes.
  • Fan to keep you fresh on a warm day.
  • Face towel or wet wipes to freshen up.
  • WATER to avoid dehydration.
  • Flip flops especially for ladies who will be wearing high heels for the photo session. You can easily slip on a flip flop when moving around from one location to another. It keeps your feet happy and you will be in a happy mood all throughout the session.
  • Sunblock especially for an outdoor location.
  • Umbrella just in case it rains.
  • Off lotion especially for kids and when the shoot is in the afternoon.
  • Props that help define who you are. E.g. your favorite scarf, chunky rings, balloons, lollipops, hats, books, toys, and what have you.

MOST IMPORTANTLY: A photo session is for you so relax and have fun. Let your beauty from within shine!
